To use any of the voice channels on Avid Discord, you must set up a Push-to-Talk. Under: User Settings - Voice - Input Mode.

whenever i've logged into discord i've had to do this invite process every time. what's the deal?

If you completely disconnect from the server, or are never registered on the server by an officer; you will need to re-input the invitation code.
